Micron Resumes DDR4/LPDDR4 Production, with DDR4 Capacity to Quadruple
Insights for 3C Buyers & Traders: Seize the Inflection Point & Mitigate Risks

Over the past two years, global memory capacity has increasingly shifted toward high-end AI-oriented products such as DDR5, LPDDR5X, and HBM. As a result, supply of legacy memory has contracted sharply, leaving the 3C industry facing widespread shortages, price hikes, and delivery delays.
Amid this market pressure, a major industry announcement signals a new turning point.
Leading memory manufacturer Micron has officially launched 1αDRAM process production at its Virginia fab, dedicated to manufacturing DDR4 and LPDDR4 chips. Full production is targeted by the end of 2026, which will quadruple DDR4 wafer output at this facility.
Notably, this additional capacity will primarily serve long-cycle applications including automotive, defense, industrial, medical, and networking equipment—not consumer electronics directly. While this expansion will not trigger a sharp drop in consumer memory prices, it eases cross-sector supply competition, cools speculative pricing, and brings gradual relief to the tight supply environment.
The current memory market shows clear divergence across product segments:
DDR4: At an inflection point; supply tightness will gradually ease, though prices remain high amid ongoing demand-supply gaps.
LPDDR4: Remains in severe shortage with no near-term improvement.
DDR3: A mature legacy product with nearly no new capacity from major vendors; supplied mainly by inventory and limited niche production. Driven by substitution demand, DDR3 is now in short supply with rising prices.
Amid cyclical shifts and structural changes in the memory industry, IK WORLD has proactively built a dual-track supply chain combining overseas and domestic resources.
We do not rely solely on foreign brands; alongside qualified supplies from Micron and Samsung, we maintain deep partnerships with leading domestic memory providers such as Longsys. This diversified ecosystem fully supports DDR3, DDR4, and LPDDR4 requirements.
Backed by mature resource integration, flexible inventory management, and large-scale production capabilities—plus the steady capacity and maturing technology of domestic memory manufacturers—we flexibly adapt hardware designs to deliver stable, reliable supply and delivery for brand owners, traders, and procurement partners.

In line with current market conditions, industry players may adopt the following strategies:
Near term: Control stocking levels and avoid chasing high spot prices.
Second half of 2026: Replenish inventory moderately for peak season as Micron ramps up and overall supply improves.
Long term: Reduce exposure to DDR3 (increasingly scarce) and transition to DDR4, the mainstream solution with stronger supply stability and robust domestic substitution support, thereby mitigating supply and price risks at the source.
The restructuring of global capacity and the breakthrough of domestic memory industries together have created new opportunities. Micron’s expansion alleviates near-term industry pressure, while the rise of domestic memory manufacturers provides a solid, long-term foundation for the 3C consumer electronics supply chain.
We will continue to monitor global industry trends, operate steadily through our dual-track supply chain, and walk alongside our partners to navigate industry cycles and capture sustainable growth.
